Arrrrrrggg, Sunday is International Talk Like a Pirate Day
Ahoy, Maty - International talk like a pirate day is this Sunday the 19th. There are many ways to celebrate. For some suggestions click here - the link will connect you to all kinds of print-outs and game ideas. You can do anything from hiding gold coins around your house and letting your kids have a treasure hunt to sharing the curriculum from The San Francisco Opera's Production of The Pirate of Penzance. For a CD or the MP3 download of the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta you can click on my Amazon Store link on the right.
If you are in the Los Angeles area and you have a pirate fan with a birthday coming up I have 2 recommendations for you, both of which were BIG hits with my son.
For an at-home birthday check out this jumpy from Megazone.
It requires a flat space and a clearance of '16 wide, '25 long and '18 high. My driveway is slightly sloped and it was fine. Get a bunch of hats, swords and eye patches, pirate booty and a pirate decorated cake or cupcakes and have a great 2 hours.
If you want to have a really special birthday take a look at Pirates Dinner Adventure in Buena Park. You will not typically find me in a place like this but my son LOVED it and I'm so glad we said yes. Tickets are currently running $25 for all shows.
Finally, the wonderful Barefoot Books offers several great pirate themed books and games. My boys listened to the Pirates stories CD for years. Click here to share a fun video with your kids and to see their pirate selection.
